For Uncle Nearest 1856, 8 to 14-year-old casks are married together. The whiskey was first created over 160 years ago: A man known only as Earnest Green, the first black Master Distiller, distilled Uncle Nearest for the first time. He was also instrumental in the development of the charcoal mellowing process, which is so important for Tennessee whiskey and involves filtering the raw spirit through a metre-thick layer of activated charcoal before it is stored in barrels.

The Distillery:

The Nearest Green Distillery in Tennessee was founded in 2019 by Fawn Weaver and honours the legacy of Nathan ‘Nearest’ Green, the first known African American master distiller and mentor to Jack Daniel. This is also where Uncle Nearest Whiskey is produced, the premium brand that Fawn Weaver launched in 2017, bringing a neglected chapter of Whiskey history back into the spotlight.
