Uncle Nearest 1884 is an exclusive small batch Tennessee whiskey distilled, aged and bottled by the Nearest Green Distillery in Shelbyville. The whiskey was first created over 160 years ago: A man known only as Earnest Green, the first black Master Distiller, distilled Uncle Nearest for the first time. He was also instrumental in the development of the charcoal mellowing process, which is so important for Tennessee whiskey and involves filtering the raw spirit through a metre-thick layer of activated charcoal before it is stored in barrels. The 1884 matured in New American Oak barrels and presents vanilla, caramel and orange flavours with chocolate and cinnamon.

The Nearest Green Distillery in Tennessee was founded in 2019 by Fawn Weaver and honours the legacy of Nathan ‘Nearest’ Green, the first known African American master distiller and mentor to Jack Daniel. This is also where Uncle Nearest Whiskey is produced, the premium brand that Fawn Weaver launched in 2017, bringing a neglected chapter of Whiskey history back into the spotlight. Under her leadership, Uncle Nearest has become one of the most successful African American spirits companies in the United States. The distillery combines historical significance with modern craftsmanship and is actively committed to diversity, transparency and equality in the industry.
