Product description

While the distillation process for Elijah Craig Straight Rye is similar to that of Small Batch Bourbon, the difference lies in the mash. It consists of 51% rye, 35% corn and 14% barley, which fulfils the legal requirements for this type of American whiskey. The rye whiskey was matured in American oak barrels, which were freshly charred immediately after the staves were assembled. Bottled at 47% vol., the result is a rye whiskey with hearty notes of baking spices, oak and sweet rye flavours.

The Distillery: Heaven Hill

The Heaven Hill distillery is relativity young for a big Whiskey distillery. It was founded two years after the prohibition ended. In 1935 the Old Heavenhill Springs was founded by a group of investors and the Shapira brothers. Kommentar: Ich und Rye, eine Beziehung die schwierig ist. Mal komme ich gut zurecht, dann empfinde ich teilweise die Rye Einflüsse in Richtung "seifig" und fast chemisch. Schlimm fand ich zb den "Buck 8yo high rye". Der war zwar ein Bourbon, aber die Ryenoten waren (für mich) eine Katastrophe. Der Kollege von Heaven Hill ist da eine ganz andere Nummer, der doch hohe Maisanteil macht ihn geschmacklich zu einem high rye Bourbon, obwohl der Rye Anteil ja bei 51% liegt, und er ein straight rye ist. Alles richtig gemacht. Der schmeckt und ist angenehm. 50% ABV oder höher täten ihm bestimmt gut, aber he, das ist meckern auf hohem Niveau. Klasse Rye für einen guten Preis
