The Laphroaig Oak Select Single Malt Whisky contains proportions of all known Laphroaig bottlings (10 years, PX Cask, Quarter Cask and Triple Wood). The combination of the different casks and bottlings creates a harmonious balance between peat smoke, vanilla, honey and slightly earthy flavours. Ian Hunter, the last of the founding family, visited the bourbon distilleries in Kentucky around 70 years ago to learn their ageing techniques. Up to this point, all the casks were from Europe, which resulted in a much sweeter Laphroaig. Hunter had a selection of ex-bourbon casks shipped to Scotland so that he could test these casks on his whisky. This is the beginning of Laphroaig as we know it.

    Aroma: Rauch, Medizin - Zahnarzt

    Geschmack: Erster Schluck Rauch. Danach süß und intensiv.

    Abgang: Rauch und Maritimer Geschmack bleiben etwas.

    Kommentar: Wer sich nicht traut. Mein Lieblingswhisky ist Edradour.
    Wir haben Oak Select gekauft als Spaß - als Gegenbeispiel.
    Aber - er kam sehr gut an.

    Klare Benennung der Geschmacksrichtung: brennendes Krankenhaus

    Aroma: Dominant ist natürlich der Rauch, maritim, Seetang, dahinter leichte Süße, Honig, Vanille und dezente Fruchtigkeit

    Geschmack: Rauchig und würzig, maritim leichte Salznote, dazu Eichennoten und Süße mit Hong und Vanille

    Abgang: Torfrauch, etwas erdig, schöne Würznoten, Anklang von Schokolade

    Kommentar: Klassischer Islay mit hervorragendem PLV, der rauch ist nicht so intensiv und phenolisch wie beim 10-jährigen, dazu etwas Süße und schöne Würznoten

    Kommentar: Laphroaig-Einsteiger zu dem Preis, den der 10-jährige mal gekostet hat. Letzterer im Angebot lohnt sich immer noch mehr, aber der Select hat auch sein eigenes Aroma, das Laphroaig-typisch und mehr als nur ein „dünnerer“ 10yo ist.

    Abgang: rauchig, herb, maritin , erdig und salzig

    Kommentar: Er ist ein Laphroig zum Einsteigen; Da gebe ich denen hier Recht die ihn so beschreiben! Widersprechen muss ich denen, die Laphroig pauschal für wahre Rauchbomben halten! Ich bin bisher lange vor dem Namen zurückgeschreckt und vor manchen Gruselgeschichten ala „Du schraubst die Flasche auf, und dein Nachbar ruft die Floriansjünger, weil er denkt bei dir fackelt die Hütte ab!“

    Alles ist bei diesem jedenfalls zum Glück viel harmloser – oder leider? Er ist jedenfalls in meinen Augen – will sagen in meinem Mund leider nur wenig rauchig. etwas süß, maritim, später herb und kaum salzig.
    Nicht falsch verstehen: Er ist nicht nur für sein PLV wirklich gut!!

    Nachtrag: Hat noch jemand ausser mir eine Zitrusnote entdeckt, die erst in den letzten noch verbleibenden Tropfen im Glas zu riechen ist?
